NEW EMPLOYEES--The effective date of coverage is the first day of the month following the date of employment OR the first day of the second month. Dependents must be enrolled with the same effective date as the new employee to avoid a waiting period for pre-existing conditions. NEWLY ELIGIBLE DEPENDENTS(except newborn)--The effective date of coverage is the first day of the month following an eligibility event, such as marriage, or the first day of the sencond month. NEWBORN--The mother must be an enrolled employee or enrolled spouse to receive newborn benefits. The effective date of coverage is the date of birth; however, a member must have "Employee/Children or Employee/Family" coverage effective the first of the month in which the child is born. "Employee Only" if you wish to add a newborn, you must submit a CHANGE FORM (Form C48s) within 30 days of the child's birth.
