New laws passed by the General Assembly session help protect the tax-exemp status of the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System by requiring a defined break from service for every retiree. Effective November 1, 2005, the Teachers & State Employees Retirement System (TSERS) participants who retire must render no services,including part time, temporary, substitute, or contractor services at any time during the six months immediately following the effective date of retirement in compliance with IRS requirements.
