UPDATE--RETIREMENT SYSTEMS/ORBIT GO-LIVE

On October 1, 2007, ORBIT (Online Retirement Benefits through Integrated Technology) will GO-LIVE. The Retirement Systems Division (RSD) will launch the “Active Member” phase which will provide the convenience of ORBIT to North Carolina’s active employees. With ORBIT you can log online and check your contributions to your account, view your beneficiary information, access to your annual statements and calculate estimated retirement using actual reported salary and service credit. **NEW PROCEDURES FOR RETIREMENT BENEFITS….(1). Members planning to retire must submit an Application “Claiming Your Retirement Benefits” (Form 6) with a verification of birth date for both the member and monthly survivor beneficiary to the Human Resources Office for faster process and submission to the RSD. Under State law, you may not sign the application earlier than 120 days before your effective date of retirement. Effective retirement date must be on the first day of the month. Also, HR needs a copy of your notice of Separation from Commerce and projected timesheets. (2). The Retirement System Division (RSD) receives the information and sends the member an Acknowledgement Letter, a Authorizing Direct Deposit form (Form 170) and Choosing the Contributory Death Benefit for Retired Members form (Form 333). Also you will receive the “Selecting Health Coverage through the State Health Plan Form (Form HM). These forms must be completed and returned to Retirement System Division (RSD) NEW REVISED FORMS..Updated forms are available now through the website at www.nctreasurer.com click on Retirement/“Application and Forms”. In addition you can find revised Disability Application forms, Benefits Designation forms, and Retirement Planning forms.
